Tooth Filing Ceremony is one of the biggest Hindu rituals in Bali and it is a part of Human Ceremony. This ceremony is executed by smoothing down incisor and eye-tooth.
In the Balinese belief system, the ceremony helps people rid themselves of the invisible forces of evil – teeth are the symbol of lust, greed, anger, insobriety, confusion and jealousy. Filing the teeth therefore renders someone both more physically and more spiritually beautiful, as well as symbolising the rite of passage for an adolescent into adulthood.
I took this picture when my niece had this ceremony end of year 2007. She looks pretty with the Balinese Costume. and She look afraid when the priest want to do it. But know she’s very happy, cause she has a beautiful smile
